Our History

Built from the New Bedford fishing industry, four generations running.

Herve Tichon ran a local grocery and ship supplier before buying his own commercial fishing vessel. In 1942, he and his son Everett opened a cutting house on Homer's Wharf. What started as a primitive operation — fish skinned, filleted, iced, and delivered locally — grew into one of the first companies to freeze seafood after the war, and it's been run by the same family ever since.

TodayFour generations later — Ron, Dan, and today Dave and Jennifer — Tichon still sources, ices, processes, and ships every day.

Product Spotlight

Four programs. One waterfront facility.

Full detail on every species and pack size lives on the Products page — this is the short version.

Tichon SeafoodFish

Fish

Tichon has cut and processed fish since 1943. Located directly on New Bedford's waterfront, we offload straight from the boat into our own HACCP-certified facility and cut fresh every day. We use the entire fish through our process, which keeps waste low and pricing competitive.

Tichon SeafoodRefreshed Fish

Refreshed Fish

Our signature Refreshed product is Alaskan H&G codfish, long-lined from the Bering Sea and frozen at sea within minutes of dressing, then held in our Massachusetts-licensed freezer. We slack out product daily to meet each order, filleted and skinned on our own equipment, then every fillet is inspected by our quality control team before packing. Custom pack sizes are available on request.

Tichon SeafoodSea Scallop Program

Sea Scallop Program

New Bedford has been the highest-valued fishing port in the United States since 2000, largely due to the strength of the North Atlantic sea scallop fishery. At Tichon Seafood, we operate two of our own scallop vessels—the Patriots and the Raiders—and supplement our supply through the daily New Bedford scallop auction, ensuring a consistent source of premium-quality scallops year-round.

Since 1977, we have built a dedicated fresh scallop program, with every scallop hand-graded in our HACCP-certified facility to meet the highest standards of quality and consistency. We customize pack sizes and specifications to meet each customer's unique needs.

In addition to our fresh scallop program, Tichon Seafood offers a complete line of frozen scallops sourced from both domestic and international fisheries, as well as fresh imported (foreign) scallops. This allows us to provide our customers with dependable year-round availability, consistent quality, and a variety of product options to meet their specifications and budget.

Waterfront Facility

Dockside access, our own ice, and HACCP-certified handling.

Being located directly on New Bedford's waterfront means product moves from boat to plant without delay. Combined with our own ice production, that keeps the cold chain intact from the moment a vessel ties up.
